Seven Student Accommodation Tips
Here are seven helpful student accommodation tips:
1) When you look at a room or house, trust your intuition. If you have a good feeling about it and can afford it, go for it!
2) Also trust your instincts when you are considering the safety of an area. If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, be careful. Always check out the quality of the neighbourhood.
3) If you are renting privately in a flat share, have good communication with your flatmates about household tasks. Making a rota for washing up and cleaning is usually a good idea.
4) Avoid becoming financially responsible for other people. If you are renting with other students, be sure that all of the students' names are on the lease (i.e., the rental contract).
5) Under no circumstances should you put only your name on a lease if friends are going to live with you.
6) As in tip number 4, put everyone's names on the bills for the property. You don't want to get stuck and have to pay for someone else's telephone, gas or electricity.
7) If you are in university accommodation and are unhappy about something, visit the university's accommodation office. People there are happy to help you.
