Student Visas for Canada for IELTS Page
Welcome! This is the "Student Visas for Canada for IELTS Preparation" page!
In order to study in Canada, you may need to apply for a student visa to Canada, also called a "study permit."
However, you will not require a student visa in Canada if your course is for six months or less. This is a change in the Canadian student visa law that came into effect on June 28, 2002.
International students studying and living in Canada for more than six months can apply for off-campus work visas. At present, there are approximately 100,000 international students in Canada who could be eligible for work visas under the Off-Campus Work Permit Program. Each work visa applicant in Canada is required to compete for employment on an equal basis with Canadian students.
Under this work-study programme, international students can work off-campus for up to 20 hours a week during the school year and full-time during study breaks. The work visa is valid until their student visa expires.
In addition, you may also need spouse visas, marriage visas or travel visas, especially if your family will be coming with you. If a family member wants to work, he or she may also need to look at employment visas.
